AMA's coalition prevails: Medicare payment cut reversed |
The AMA succeeded in orchestrating ample bi-partisan majorities in both the House and Senate on Tuesday, July 15, to override President Bush’s veto of the Medicare bill (H.R. 6331). Thus, the 10.6% physician payment cut that became effective July 1 has been reversed for at least through December 31, 2009.

An ad hoc RIMS committee on hospital mergers drafted a document and has shared it with the RI Attorney General, the Director of Health, the Governor and the media. RIMS' calls for hospital merger proposals to be evaluated in light of a mandated statewide coordinated plan for health care infrastructure.

Help RIMS fight arbitrary physician provider tax |
|
As of July 1, 2007, RI law imposes a new 2% gross receipts tax on physicians who perform imaging services or have licensed ambulatory surgery centers.
This tax affects hundreds of physicians, including some primary care practices. RIMS moved immediately to challenge the legality of this law, but the process requires several steps .

The new genre of for-profit health care facilities includes "Minute Clinics," which have been installed in many CVS pharmacies in Massachusetts and in many other states.
