June 1 Meeting

June 29 – RIMS Executive Committee meets.

June 23 – RIMS President Diane Siedlecki was lead speaker at State House press conference calling for the restoration funds for the Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner.

June 17 – RIMS hosted the Contractor Advisory Committee of NHIC, RI's new Medicare contractor. The June 1 transition appears to have gone smoothly. The CAC will meet again on October 26 in Waltham, MA.

June 13–17 – RI AMA Delegates Michael Migliori, MD and Peter Hollmann, MD attended the AMA Meeting in Chicago.

Strike a blow now for Medicare payment reform

Congress needs to hear directly from their physician constituents about the importance of finally fixing Medicare’s disruptive SGR (“Sustainable Growth Ratio”) formula. Read NewsFlash

RIMS Annual Helmet Distribution


RIMS volunteers distributed bike helmets and safety gear to eligible RIteCare children on May 9 in Pawtucket. RIMS has donated over 6000 helmets since the programs inception. More about the program

TarWars® Statewide Poster Contest winner

The TarWars® Rhode Island poster contest was held at the Woodlawn Community Center in Pawtucket on May 9. Olivia Houston from The Pennfield School in Portsmouth won first place (pictured, with her parents). Bianca Martin from Fallon Memorial School in Pawtucket won second, and Olivia DeAngelis from R.C. Laperche School in Smithfield won third place.

Help RIMS fight arbitrary physician provider tax

In July 2007, RI law imposed a 2% gross receipts tax on physicians who perform imaging services or have licensed ambulatory surgery centers. This tax affects hundreds of physicians, including some primary care practices. RIMS moved immediately to challenge the legality of this law, but the process requires several steps.
